"Operation Prom Night" is a collaboration between MCSAN, the Decatur City Police Department, the Morgan County Sheriff's Deparment, the Hartselle Police Department, and the Alabama State Troopers. The goal of "Operation Prom Night" is to educate prom-age students of the potential hazards of mixing intoxicating substances and Prom Night and to enforce laws regarding underage drinking and drug use on Prom Night. Law enforcement officers distributed brochures on the dangers of drinking and driving to area high school students before each school's prom.
Through a combined law enforcement effort, driver checkpoints are set up at various locations where students are likely to travel on prom night. The emphasis of this program lies in holding those who drink and drive accountable for their actions with the sternest of consequences. Drivers under the age of 21 are reminded that ANY alcohol that is detected in their systems while operating a motor vehicle make them subject to arrest.
