The “Given the Opportunity” Youth Awards Project began in 1993.  Since then, 477 grants totaling $65,760 have been awarded.  There are two categories of grants:  Community Service and Prevention.  The purpose of the Community Service Grants is for youth groups to design and implement projects what will make a positive difference in the community.  The Prevention Grants focus on the prevention of drinking and driving, tobacco usage or the promotion of seat belt usage.
